Bound in the original decorative green cloth with a gold gilt illustrated panel stamped to the front board and decorations to the spine and a matching illustration on the back board in blind. All edges gilt. Illustrated with 25 tinted sepia plates and an illustrated vignette on the title page; all illustrations by Robert Dudley. Corners bumped, as are the head and tail of the spine. Occasional foxing throughout but mainly marginal and more pronounced on the title page. Previous owner's name on the ffep. Overall, a tight and bright copy. A nicely preserved copy of this scarce book. A fascinating work on the Atlantic Cable, with lithographs from original drawings made by Robert Dudley on the Great Eastern cable laying voyage.
