A lot of '90s bands have resurrected the surf sounds of the '60s, with varying results; most groups have tended to add jerky punk influences (Man or Astro-man?, the Phantom Surfers), while others have used the contemporary guitar work of American indie to achieve a sound that's interesting beyond the nostalgia or kitsch of pure surf (Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet).
