"Will it never be understood," asks a modern French writer, "since the day of Luther there is no more confession of faith, no more catechism possible? Christianity is nothing more than the vision of humanity, as it has been exposed by each in his turn, from Kant, Schelling, Hegel, Strauss, and in the last place by Feuerbach. This is the glory of the Reformation. It has in this respect merited well of humanity, and is undertaking again the work of Christ, which was already betrayed at the Council of Nice.
