I have read several Christian "marriage" books before and after getting married. These usually offered pithy advice, pop psychology stuff, and generally a watered down glop of cautionary words.

He is a masterful storyteller. You don't expect these sorts of books to pull you in. This one did. Some chapters, I would keep reading, JUST BECAUSE I WANTED TO READ IT.
And the advice is timeless. It isn't geared towards a specific generation, age-type, cultural background, or whether you're unmarried or newly married. He talks about solid, down-to-earth advice that isn't new, but worth hearing over and over. For example, who else can convincingly tell you how important forgiveness is to a relationship. And then actually makes you want to practice it?
