The place and meaning of the leukocyte count and the differential formula have continued to provoke discussion and are nearer solution. 'lane's bands, Jackson's membrane and the mobile caecum have successively been invoked to account for symptoms commonly ascribed to chronic appendicitis which in some cases are not abolished by re moval of the appendix.
