I think this is probably the most beautifully written book Gladys Taber wrote, probably because of the moving subject. Her account of her feelings and actions after the death of her beloved friend, Jill, shows who she is beyond what is revealed in her other lovely books. Additionally, as she intends it to be, it is not only a tribute to Jill but a helpful guide to others on this lonely path.
I was widowed many years ago and can identify with much she describes. My husband and I are now reading it together because I expect it to be a help to whomever of us is left alone. We are getting to that age when this possibility is on our minds. Although I wept often while reading it, I found it inspired hope. It is among my favorite books. Never has Gladys seemed more real and special to me.
