This is just another typical "Learn to Draw," book, but it has an anime theme, that's about it. Every picture that you are supposed to draw is the same as other books: Draw outline; Add facial features; Erase outline. It doesn't even go into the details on HOW to draw the eyes, nose, mouth, or hair, they just expect you to just know how to do it. Everything in between is just the basic anatomy of the human body, how a person stands, how a hand holds something, and how a body looks at different angles...I'd say it's pretty close to a "How to Draw People" book more than it is an Anime drawing guide. I know that anatomy is a fundamental part of drawing, but that's all this book touches on, anatomy and nothing else! When I say anatomy, I mean, "...of a real person, not an animated character of any kind whatsoever." I thought this book would go into detail about hair and eyes and all that stuff, seeing as it's a book about how to draw anime, and those are the defining aspects about anime, but it's mainly aimed at teaching the proportions of a natural human being, not an anime character, and at the most they have frilly hair, and their face is normal. Sure, it goes into "How to Draw Monsters", but it uses the same 3-4 steps listed above: Draw outline; Add scales, teeth, horns, muscles; Erase outline. So, if you're looking for a "How To" book that goes into full detail about drawing every aspect that is anime, (hair, eyes, chibi) I suggest you look elsewhere, this book is just basics that you probably already know.
