This book is not for everyone. It is detailed and scholarly; not for the casual reader. You need to know a good bit about this subject before you can fully appreciate this book. But if you are prepared, it has a wealth of detail that cannot be ignored by anyone interested in this topic. The amount of work that went into this is mind boggling. A lot of work has been done on individual aspects of Anglo-Saxon history since this was written, but one would be hard pressed to find a scholar today as thorough as Stenton to create an updated version.
