VG+, some mottling to vellum spines, very minor mottlijng to covers. Bound in full cream vellum, gilt spine lettering, decorative gilt coat of arms on front boards, top edges gilt. Each volume with the etched bookplate of Henry C. Blenheim. Volume 1: xx, 135 pp. 27 maps (including 2 folding) and 14 other reproductions or facsimiles. Vol. 2: 78 pp. with 12 maps (including 4 folding) and 2 other facsimiles. An extraordinary set. Frontis. plate designed by Wm. F. Hopson & signed in pencil by him; title page designed by E. D. French, printed on vellum abd signed in pencil by him under the plate along with an original remarque. Second title page of paper without signature or remarque. Loose tissue guards. Frontis to volume 2 etched and signed by H.W.H. Bicknell, after a painting by Copley. Title-page engraving not signed, same as Volume 1. Both volumes dated 1903 on title-page but copyrighted 1904. In exceptional; condition, slipcases are red (vol. 1) and white (vol. 2) in not great condition. Howes A 239.
