Crisis management
When a religious leader (or leaders) commits a crime it can shake the foundation of the congregations' faith. Mazo was the assistant rabbi when his mentor, the rabbi of his temple, Fred Neulander was accused and eventually (after 2 trials) convicted of murdering his wife Carole Neulander. Mazo writes less about the actual crime but more about how he, as a young rabbi, w/ no experience in such betrayal and trauma, held the temple together, managed the anger, pain and betrayal felt by the congregation and Neulander's adult children, and maintained his faith.
For more about the actual crime, investigation, trials and convictions (3 men were involved), see The Rabbi & the Hitman, by Arthur Magida.
