This theology of transformation has a lot in common with the thinking of the early Stanley Hauerwas and Iris Murdoch. Also Simone Weil. The concept is that we are changed much more essentially by what we see, comprehend, than by acts of will. Vision is more efficacious for conversion than voluntarism. But what we see is most often given as a kind of unexpected gift, though once one has had an experience of transforming vision, it then puts one on the qui vivre to be on the lookout. This seems to be at the heart of Barron's book. Worthwhile reading and considering as it works as a kind of roadmap for the sort of seeing that can change one interiorly. Be sure and go on to read THE PRIORITY OF CHRIST by this same author. In this more recent volume, one will find a deeper and more developed theology. Five stars--*****--for the later book.
