VG. 8vo. modern half-leather gilt, uncut, with spine labels, raised bands, marbled boards & new endpapers (a little light speckling to leaf edges, many unopened); pp. 144, with occasional diagrams & tables. A very good copy [Penzer 171-173]. To all intents and purposes the first edition (the work was originally published in 1873, but only four or six copies were printed), of which Penzer notes three variant printings, all issued in 1885. This copy is apparently the Third Reprint, though the leaves do not bear watermarks.
