These and other translations differ so little, that I do not wait to prove that ours are preferable; and I furnished those parallel texts, merely to shew, that the popish construction does not recommend meritorious works; that we did not mistranslate to discourage such works; and that none of Ward's texts proves the point for which they are produced. The Romish interpretation of his fifth text, differs but little from the protestant one. But him that was a little lessened under the angels, we fee Jesus, bee arise of the passion of death crowned with glory and honour; (Heb. ii. 9.) but zve see Jesus who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honour. I like the popish version of this text somewhat better than my own: but I may be mistaken; and wish that my errors here and elsewhere may not be imputed to the protestant churches; but to the zeal, ignorance or weakness of an individual, who writes without the authority or solicitation of any person whatsoever. PROTESTANT TRANSLATIONS AGAINST FREE-WILL.
