Rick Atkinson is a superb military historian & he brings the crucial battle for control of the momentum of WW II will be views as a classic by all who take time to enjoy the story. The story is complete, describing, in some detail, the plan to take the battle to the German Army in the most hostile of places, The battle did not start well for the Allies, but a change in commanders after the Kasserine pass saved the war in the desert. Lessions learned in this battle were taken to Italy & then to Normandy. Although a prelude to the greater battles ahead, Rick Atkinson will enthral those readers who enjoy a good WW II story that has a happy ending. Be prepared to not put the book down once you have started.

An Army At Dawn
This was a meticulously research book that was a sheer pleasure to read. Atkinson's command of facts and writing skill are unmatched.

Great book about WWII
There are many books about World War 2 in Europe. This book, the first in a trilogy, begins with the very start of US involvement in the war and tells the story of the war in North Africa which preceded the fighting in Europe. The best thing about this book is that it tells about the people who were involved, both leaders and soldiers, as well as the battles themselves. I enjoyed this book immensely
