Author was a Special War Correspondent to the "Daily Mail" during the South African War, late 19th, early 20th century. These are his records of that war. The material was never before published, except some chapters appeared originally in the "Daily Mail" as letters from the front; these have been recast and extended for this volume. "When Field-Marshall Lord Roberts came out to South Africa he came to take command in what had every outward aspect of a losing game." (First sentence of the book). Thus starts this analysis of the war in South Africa. The book is bound in clean and unmarked tan cloth with brown lettering on spine. No edgewear, rounded corners. Tight and solid. All edges speckled. Endpapers appear to be new library inserted, with pocket and sticker; small stamp on title page, date stamps on CR page; stipling on p 1; no other lib marks. Interior is generally clean and toned; occasional smudges, little tears at lower hinge on some pages, smudgy erasure on p.1. 324 pages. 4.5 x 6.5 inches. 1901, Frederick A.
