The first of the human race, was distinguished from all the other creatures of this world, by the gift of reason, by which he was able to discover the perfection of the Creator, and by his intuitive knowledge -to discover the use and design of the various works he beheld, which afforded such an impressive sense of the wisdom, power, and goodness of God, as to convince him of his dependence, and that he was accountable to him for his conduct. This impression was evidenced, by his attempt to hide himself from the presence of God ih the garden, after he had transgressed'the prohibition of his Maker.
