You can't get any bigger bang for your buck!
Tad Burness has capitalized on the very basic formula of "scrapbook presentation". He takes clip art and photos from any and every source imaginable and synthesizes it into an ordered and organized, though very busy "three ring circus" pattern (by manufacturer for example and then by year). The end result is a perfect thumbnail overview of the makes and models each firm has produced down through the years. He descriptively terms these efforts "Spotters Guides" and indeed that is as perfect a description of the end product as you can find.
Burness has treated cars, both foreign and domestic, in this manor for years and given a generation or two a fighting chance at being able to tell a Buick Riviera from an Oldsmobile Cutlass. His books are consistently the best teaching aids a hobbyist or historian could ever hope to find.
In this work Mr. Burness turns his attention to the commercial world of trucks and busses and the end result is a little slice of heaven. This book bridges the gaps between your world, your father's world, your grandfather's world and perhaps even your great grandfather's world. Between the cover's you come face to face with America's past through the work-a-day vehicles which built, maintained and served this country (and much of the rest of the world) for some seven decades. In the process the reader becomes an expert at identification. I can tell you first hand that when the day arrives that you see an old truck in a museum, parked along side an old barn or...as is often the case stopped at the red light beside you...and you recognize it....You will be both speechless and star struck! "Oh, my GOD that's an early model Ford C tilt cab...I know that truck...it had a nearly 30 year production run...it's a true American classic!"..."That shield logo rather than F O R D spelled out across the front tells me that it is from the late 1960s". On that day you will thank Tad Burness for the experience!
