Seller's Description:
Lee Clockman. Fine in Fine jacket. A lovely first edition copy of this catalogue of the monumental Faith P. and Charles L. Bybee collection of eighteenth and early nineteenth century American Furniture, held the Dallas Museum of Art. Charles L. Bybee, a banker and philanthropist, alongside his wife Faith (nee Poorman) were lifelong collectors of fine American antiques, who notably restored Texas homes and oversaw the collection of furnishings from the surrounding area. Praised as 'dedicated connoisseurs of early American furniture', the couple built an extensive collection of tables, clocks, beds, and other pieces, detailed extensively in this fascinating work. While the Bybee Collection is by no means the largest collection of American furniture in the United States, it is commonly deemed as being exceptional due to the high quality of the individual pieces, and the incredibly broad stylistic and geographical range of the collection as a whole. This work is copiously illustrated throughout with coloured photographs by Lee Clockman, with fascinating descriptions and studies of the pieces in the collection by Charles L. Venable. Complete with the original unclipped dustwrapper. In the publisher's original cloth binding with gilt title to spine and the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally lovely. Dustwrapper lovely, with only minor shelfwear to extremities. Internally firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean throughout. Fine.
