Seller's Description:
Near fine in very good jacket. Octavo, 218pp. A crisp, clean copy, near fine, with gentle age-toning to the extremitiesIn a very good dust jacket, gently worn along the edges, with a faint dampstain to the interior of the rear panel. A fantastic association copy, SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Harriman in the month of publication on the first blank to his former colleague from the Kennedy administration, Nicholas Katzenbach: "For Nick Katzenbach, whose incisive perception is a joy to his friends + confounding to the others. With my profound gratitude + affection. Averell Harriman. Dec. 1970." During the Kennedy administration, Katzenbach was Deputy Attorney General, while Harriman (the former Governor of New York) was Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs. While both men had political careers too long to describe in this space, it's worth noting that both became deeply involved in behind-the-scenes efforts during the Johnson administration to end the Vietnam War. As such, a significant association copy.
