Few recent books have been published on faceting gemstones, Tom Herbst's is the latest, it's in 2 volumes and is fantastic.
It is very comprehensive, explaining all aspects this history of faceting gemstones, current computer programs to create faceting diagrams, current faceting techniques & machines used along with some of his own diagrams.
These two volumes are an excellent resource for anyone just starting to learn how to facet, along with helpful hints & tips for someone who has been faceting for some time.
Tom writing method is similar to listening an accomplished professor giving a lecture, he covers the main points of the subject while alluding to sideline information. Personally I think its great!
