Unfortunately, most of the material on the disk is instantly forgettable. This Sympathy for the Record Industry two-CD compilation contains 48 tracks by female (fronted) acts either on or associated with the indie record label. Unfortunately, most of the material on the disk is instantly forgettable. Even though most of the tracks are cute, catchy, and/or rockin', standout tracks are few and far between on this sampler (with the exception of "Bomb the Twist" by the 5,6,7,8's and "Ca Plane Pour Moi" by Thee Headcoatees). This largely owes to the generous track selection. There is at least one legendary track here -- "Retard Girl" -- from Hole's first single. Other key cuts by staple acts include "I Don't Like You" by the Muffs, "Toybox" by the Geraldine Fibbers, "Cet Air-La" by April March, and Free Kitten's hilarious yet tough sendup of the X-Ray Spex' "Oh Bondage Up Yours." ~ Brian Flota, Rovi
