1968: Kevin protests on his college campus after the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.
1995: With the Million Man March considered controversial by some, Gibran challenges hypocrisy at his prep school.
Both students navigate racism and contemplate what they're willing to risk as they work to discover themselves outside of what society and family dictates.
ALL YOU HAVE TO DO was a phenomenal debut novel full of emotion. I had a hard time putting it down. I loved the dual timeline as the execution made for a wonderful connection between Gibran and Kevin's stories while still allowing each of them to have their own individual voice and significant character development. This is historical fiction but the characters and plot felt so very real and genuine. The writing was powerful, both in topic and overall impact. This is a book that should be in classrooms. Despite being a YA novel, I hope ALL YOU HAVE TO DO finds a wide age-range audience as it's a must read. The Author's Note is not to be missed.
I wholeheartedly recommend ALL YOU HAVE TO DO. I look forward to future books by Autumn Allen.
