From 1956 on, clarinetist Albert Nicholas made his home in Europe. He only recorded in the U.S. again during a 1959 visit, which resulted in a pair of Delmark releases. This particular set matches Nicholas with pianist Art Hodes' band, which at the time included trumpeter Nappy Trottier, trombonist Floyd O'Brien and the then-unknown guitarist Marty Grosz. The music (seven Dixieland standards, "You Gotta See Your Mama Every Night," and "How Long Blues") is predictable but excellent, with some spirited moments and joyous ...
