Die Tatsache, dass Ludwig im Nachgang zu seiner deutschen Erschliessung dieses religions- und literaturgeschichtlich bedeutsamen Dokuments zwischen den Jahren 1886 und 1893 auch eine englische Ubersetzung des Rigveda erarbeitet hatte, die sich zugleich als erste wissenschaftliche Ubersetzung ins Englische erweisen sollte, blieb von der Forschung demgegenuber unbemerkt, da Ludwig sie zu Lebzeiten nicht mehr veroffentlichen konnte. Kurz nach seinem Tod wurde die handschriftliche Ubersetzung von der Universitat Oxford angekauft, vom damaligen Boden-Professor Arthur Anthony Macdonell (1854-1930) stillschweigend in Verwahrung genommen und erst nach dessen Ableben dem Max Muller Memorial Fund in Oxford uberlassen. Raik Strunz legt nun in VIK 6 mit Mandalas I-V die erste Halfte der von Alfred Ludwig nachgelassenen englischen Gesamtubersetzung des Rigveda vor.
