Lindsey Davis does a remarkable job telling stories from the 1st century considering she was not there. Great writing that grabs me from the first page. Each book is a stand alone, however taken together it's better than most mini series and of course it is reading rather than t.v. Just great.

Falco Series
I read the entire series from the beginning. Alexandria is the last of the books read. The first book was a slow start (a little more sleaze than I would have liked) but I really got into the characters and enjoyed every single book.

Marcus Didius does it again.
Marcus Didius Falco sets everything to rights in Egypt. The chase scene up the Lighthouse was a bit contrived, but everything else was great.

Don't waste your time
Ancient Rome? No. The characters are strictly 21st century Americans. See HBO's "Rome" if you really want to shudder.
