Even the cover should alert you to the miserable color reproductions inside this cheaply produced book. The text is easily gleaned from other sources and unexceptional, but is the reproductions that are the real culprit here; often bleary and unfocused, a poor selection of examples of the artist's often uneven production give no hint of Bierstadt's exceptional skill. The worst , though, is the often vague coloring which appears at best to be missing key colors. Keep on searching.
