This book was a very interesting read! Never before have I been interested in West African gods (Orisha-Vodun) and other deities. Now, after reading this fascinating book, I have become an avid follower. I crave for more knowledge on the subject. I recommend this great book to anyone, regardless of their faith. It all makes perfect sense.
This book celebrates the origin of Yorùbá Orisha worship in a manner which not all other writers of the Orisha subject have respected such origins. I recommend this book to the neophyte of African Religious Traditions and to all college students in "Comparative Religion" classes. Too often African Spirituality is treated in a condescending manner; this is THE book that elevates the Orishas and Yorùbá traditional religion to the rightful place of literary style, which is presented in an enchanting, honest, informative and profound manner. This book has a unique point of view on what Orishas are and their different forms of Ashe powers and manifestations. You will never perceive the Orishas in the same manner after reading this book. It will open your eyes to the beauty of the Orisha belief system and all they have to offer. This is one of the BEST books, on the Orisha subject, that I have read so far. The author used language that is very easy to understand and one can easily absorb and understand the stories and the interconnected relations between the Orishas and human devotees. I am pleased that this book has been published, because there are many books out there with big claims but that deliver very little information on the Orisha subject. This is a read you won't be able to put down, once you start, and you won't regret investing time to read the 998 pages. It is great work and very informative! This book is a well written Orisha gem that is well worth the purchase. Congratulations to the author!
