Handsome first edition of this volume in the "Folger Documents of Tudor and Stuart Civilization" series, being the texts of Burghley's 1561 "A Memorial for Thomas Cecil" and 1584 "Certain Precepts for the Well Ordering of a Man's Life, " Raleigh's 1632 "Sir Walter Raleigh's Instructions to His Son and to Posterity" and Osborne's 1656 "Advice to a Son." Ironically, this is a father-to-son copy, hailling from the collection of Illinois governor and twice presidential candidate Adlai E. Stevenson II (1900-65) and thence to Illinois senator Adlai E. Stevenson III (1930-2021).
