The endowment vas land: a part of the forest itself: of little value then, and only to be made valuable by the labor of the industrious iiioneer; and even then not a rich endow ment, but one easily squandeied, and which economy alone could make answer the purpose ot its establishment. But economy is or should be an American virtize; to be taught and practiced in its schools as well as bv its fnesi des id in its halls of legislation: and economy has carefully cherished the fund, until, within the life time of men who saw the first p 1anti11g, the 1 uits of the institution, com plete in all its departments, can now be 111303 ed.
