I have been a member of the Acoaxet Club for 65 years, so some parts of this Centennial, before the 1950s, are a mystery to me. I have tried to discover the comings and goings of Acoaxet from news clippings, board-meeting minutes, and through stories that have been passed down through the years. Anecdotal reports of the early history of the Club are often clouded by age and infirmity. I think, however, that we have captured the activity and challenges of the decades by using all available sources, both human and recorded. Many of the decades, by all accounts, were exciting. We all lived through some of them, and we are reminded of the others by stories we have heard before. There were anecdotes that could not be repeated to protect the good name of members, past and present. Just as well! The purpose of this narrative and the accompanying photos is to relate the history of a club founded for good fun many years ago by dedicated forefathers who were followed by their heirs and others who have loved the community and the Club herein and all it offers. The front cover image depicts the true mission of the Acoaxet Club: a family club dedicated to providing a location for golf, tennis, and fun in a competitive environment. Members have advocated tradition, respect, and dedication to the fundamentals of Club membership. May all future generations share the same ideals as those in this history.
