Although most commands provide an overview of the sources of assistance available following an accident in pre-command seminars, this type of information is often put out of mind as the pleasures and pressures of command take their toll. When the unthinkable happens, it is too late to try to find those notes, or research a regulation. What a commander needs is an easy-to-read handbook for training and preparation to ensure the right things get accomplished at the right time following an accident. This paper is designed to draw together a myriad of Air Force Regulations, Pamphlets, Policy Directives, and Instructions, as well as experiences of the author and others, to provide that reference.
