Seller's Description:
Near Fine. 12mo-over 6¾"-7¾" tall. 162p. Original brown cloth gilt. A near fine copy, the spine ends of which, are very slightly worn. This is a presentation copy, either from the author or the publisher. Peters (1819-1893), a pioneer American epidemiologist and apostate homeopath, wrote a number of books on cholera, this being his first. He "followed the progress of the pestilence, observing its modes of travel and spread, and was one of the most vigorous proponents of the microbe idea of causation. He wrote and spoke extensively over the country and did much to combat the old miasmatic idea." (Chambers, The Conquest of Cholera, 262-3. )
