But certain it is, that this Noun is always Masculine in Construction. Wherefore Urban, Caninius, Voffius and the most learned Grammarians admit of only Masculines in rx. Rule V, Nouns in nt making - in the Vocative. 1. Nouns making in the Vocative are those in TH2. 2. Gentiles, 3. Poetics in IIHS. 4. Three forts of Verbals: 5. ZTH2 admits of either n or et. Exam P Les. Four sorts of Nouns make the Vocative in - short. 1. Those in-mr, 'nrzvKcinx, equitator, 5 lx iwKclrct, sifoipTijs, propheta, u wcra; and others of the fame fort, none of which remove the Accent, except iafirirtu, dominus, which draws it back, a iianoltt. 2. Nouns denoting Countries and Nations; 2jw6;r, a Eku'oix, Scytha. nlfo-tj?, S nicrat, a Persian, etc. but when it signifies Perses, a proper Name, the Vocative then is TLi. 3. The Poetic Nouns in zsw, as wtuitfa, x, uvU7rcc, aspeflu canino praditus, impudens. To which Poets generally join the Ionic e in the fame Syllable with the following Vowel; as here in tu Genitive Singular, iur Plur. and elsewhere. Thus moiwrti is a Trisyllable, njtJw, a Monosyllable, yio-iui, Ttv%ia, Dissyllable, and in Homer, UrirmccSiu of five Syllables: Mwiv dnSt, (r)iol, nriXri.'xoiui 'AyjXyo;, Lam cane, Deer, Pelidit Achillis. Which (hews Plutarch's Oversight in censuring this Verse as too licentious and redundant of a Syllable. The fame also happens sometimes to Imparifyllabics, whether simple or contract, likewise to Pronouns, and even to Participles, as -roXiac for -roWiac, multos; ta%ta, muri; Gncriui, of Theseus; ufuiim, fingi.
