Seller's Description:
Not Stated. Very Good. A first edition school binding of Hickson's A Naturalist in North Celebes. Hickson's narrative of his travels is exceedingly detailed and rich in observation, and accompanied by several maps and illustrations, including a coloured frontispiece. Sydney J. Hickson (1859-1940), FRS, was a zoologist known for his groundbreaking research in evolution, embryology, genetics, and systematics. The Manchester Museum has many specimens of coral that came from Sydney Hickson, a specialist on corals and one-time Professor of Zoology at the University of Manchester. These include a number of type specimens of names published by Hickson and others, including Stanley Gardiner. In a crushed morocco binding with embossed gilt board design. Externally generally smart with light rubbing-boards a little warped. Internally generally firmly bound although rear joint is starting. Pages very bright and clean throughout save for slight foxing to first and last few pages as usual. Prize bookplate to front pastedown dated 1897. Very Good.
