Subsequent advances in many different areas have come about, in particular stroke rehabilitation, drugs, orthogeriatrics and Parkisonism. Additionally, abuse of the elderly is seen as a growing problem whilst the study of dementia has led to the development of psychogeriatrics. There are new sections investigating facilities for care in the community and specialist services and emphasis is placed on the importance of hypothermia with a discussion of its pathophysiology, clinical features, complications, prevention and management.
