She has amassed over thirty years of engineering experience, including being a college and graduate school professor. She is an experienced presenter at national and international technical conferences. With the advent of parenthood, she turned her technical talents to researching her family's genealogy. She researches, lectures and writes about genealogy. Dr. McMahon has been an invited speaker at many genealogical societies and conferences in the Washington D.C.-Baltimore area, as well as several branches of her local Public Library.
