Good+ Actually a world gazetteer, this edition with a "new appendix with 10, 000 small towns, villages, rivers of the U. S. & cities villages, & counties of Texas, Mexico and California." As an indication of the state of the union in 1846, the author states: "San Antonio, population perhaps 1, 500." Contains a HAND-COLORED FOLDING MAP in the rear of the United States "Exhibiting its Canals and Railroads" (eastern states from Louisiana north) which is torn at a fold when it was carelessly refolded. Half leather with black spine and bright gilt spine lettering and rules, brown cloth covered boards. Top of leather spine with a small tear, covers rubbed, old owner name in old ink on end paper, tanning to text blocks and a bit of scattered foxing to some pages. Ref: Sabin 2925; Hand-colored map; 8vo 8"-9" tall; 648 pages.
