Excerpt from A Tentative System of Subject Headings for the Literature of Military Science: Compiled for the Use of the Editors of "the International Military Digest" This tentative system of subject headings for the litera ture of military science was compiled directly for use in editing the International Military Digest. There were available for our use in English only the admirable but brief relative index to the expansion of the military sec tions of the Dewey Decimal Classification prepared by Dr. Holden, for many years librarian of the U. S. Military Academy at West Point. And the in many ways excellent but still comparatively undetailed classification prepared by the Army War College at Washington. To both these pamphlet classifications the writer is indebted for innumerable suggestions of arrangement and nomenclature.
