Unless you are a Ph.D. level linguist, this is not an introduction of any sort. Exrtremely dense. Rather than spending any time going over the basics (such as listing the tenses in English, when each is used, and their regular constructions), the books seems to revel in listing exceptions and irregular situations. The book makes a big deal about using a "modern" approach to grammar because of the exceptions and irregular situation that don't fit into more traditional approaches. Instead of an "Introduction," I would title this book something like, "Hundreds of superficially explained exceptions to traditional grammar classification." There is nothing wrong with including the exceptions. But I do wish the book had provided a stronger foundation in the regular situations first, brefore jumping off the deep end, so that irregular cases could be contrasted against something.
