I purchased this book with the intention of passing it on to a young adult in my family who grew up in a dysfunctional home. I started a "book club" with her and introduced this and similar books, i.e., The House You Pass On the Way, and Me and Emma. The idea was to open dialogue with her in a supportive environment while discussing the content of the books we read in our "book club". This book has a positive quality in that the main character discovers her strengths while living in a hostile home environment. Although these subject matters can stir up uncomfortable feelings and emotions in the reader from a dysfunctional family environment it helps open doors to discussion and the possibility of healing.
