Robert Sapolsky is an amazing lecturer, and in this book he manages to pass the spirit of his live lectures to the reader.
The book is often funny, sometimes it's sad.
Expect many delightful moments, don't always expect happy endings.

Primates and the primacy of love
If you like primates, the study of primate behavior or rich tales about living on the ground as a researcher - humanist in modern east Africa, you'll love this read. In a world of DVDs and video games, it's great to have a writer who you deliver you into where he lived, what he researched, and how he grew as a human being while studying these utterly fascinating relatives of ours. Good science, berret literature. Intelligent designers probably don't need to order this book.

My favorite field biologist memoir
This book was required reading for a semester-long program I participated in in Kenya; I think it is quite possibly the most enjoyable reading assignment I've ever had. Sapolsky does a fantastic job of telling incredible stories about his experiences as a field biologist and traveler in east Africa. I particularly enjoy reading field biologist memoirs, and this is by far the most entertaining account of several years in the bush. It is funny, captivating, unbelievable, and touching. I highly recommend it for travelers (safari-goers and armchair enthusiasts alike).
