This is an excellent book for anyone interested in the life of a woman living in the rough early west with traders & Indians. This has a strong historical theme making it a lesson as well as enjoyable reading.

Absolutely Great Read
The 3 books that is in this series is absolutely great. I could hardly put it down. Historical accounts are accurate. The last book takes place maybe a 45 min. drive from my home in French Prarie area. It brought history home. The is an accounting a strong, wise woman who overcame extreme difficulties in life. I fell in love with Marie Doren an Indian women. I recommend this book to everyone. Jane Fritzpatrick is an awesome author.

Transported back in time
I found this to be a very enjoyable account of what it was like for those brave enough to face the hardships of settling the American west even before it was controlled by America. I learned much about the influence of the early missionaries, the British and the native Americans in settling the west. The story is from the view of an Indian woman who suffered, worked harder than most men for the future of her children. A real role model. I am now enjoying the two following accounts and will be sad when I'm done with them. I intend to read more of Jane Kirkpatrick's work.
