A country where any farmer, small-business owner, manual laborer, or doctor could speak up and make a difference. Doctor Carson provides information and background on the writing of the Constitution, the legislative branch, the executive branch, the judicial branch, each article of the Constitution, each amendment of the Bill of Rights, and additional amendments to the Constitution. The purpose of the author is to inform Americans about these significant foundational documents. The dangers of political correctness (a threat to freedom of speech) and being an informed American are the major themes of the book. Doctor Carson also emphasizes that the biggest threat to freedom in America is a lack of knowledge about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. As an American history and government teacher I found this book to be both informative and highly readable. I plan on keeping it as a reference tool on my book shelf in my classroom.
