Tra vellers, in passing this part of the lake, hardly ever escape encoun tering them. A small round cloud first appears, enlarging as it ap proaches, and spreading a gloom over a considerable extent. From this cloud the lightnings ash in all directions, while the thunder roars with more tremendous peals than in any other part of Ame rica.
