Thomas Lyttleton Sullivan, the son Of an Irish bar rister, came to America from Charleville, County Cork, Ireland, and settled in Augusta County, Virginia, where in March, 1791, he married Margaret Irwin, a daughter of James Irwin. Margaret Irwin was of Scotch descent, a woman of strong character and deeply re ligious nature, whose influence left an indel ible impression upon her only son and his children. This son, Jeremiah, was born in Rockingham County, Virginia, in 1794.
