What happens when Joey and his sister, Mary Alice--two city slickers from Chicago--make their annual summer visit to Grandma Dowdel's seemingly sleepy Illinois town? In the tradition of American humorists Mark Twain and Flannery O'Connor, Richard Peck has created this memorable world filled with characters who, like Grandma herself, are larger than life and twice as entertaining.

This book follows the adventures of 2 children who go for the summer to visit their grandmother. Not your usual stuffy grandmother but one who is a character and keeps them guessing about what she will do next. It covers many summers and the novel is for youth but I have recommended it to a few of my sdult friends who have also liked this book. Will be checking to see if this author has written other books too.
