Her vivid descriptions of the beauty and dangers of the Australian landscape, and humorous, colloquial dialogue gave her writing its unique color. A Little Bush Maid, published in 1910, was her first major success. It was originally published as a serial in the children's page of the Lead. With the success of this novel Bruce was able to devote herself to writing fulltime. This is the story of Norah, a young girl living on a large station in Victoria, Australia.
