In complying with their folicitations, I am far from being confident that the fuccefs of my efforts will jufiify their hopes: I trufl', however, that too much will not be expected, in regard to literary compofition, from a perfon whole life has been principally devoted to the duties of a foldier and the fervice of his country - and that a fcrupulous adherence to truth will compenfate for many blemifhes in flyle and arrangement.
