Picking up where the first volume of his autobiography, The Salad Days, left off, Fairbanks finds himself a newly-commissioned naval officer--just six weeks before the attack on Pearl Harbor. Unlike many Hollywood heroes who never fired a shot, Fairbanks spent most of his time in harm's way, including grueling experiences in the North Atlantic and the European Theatre. Photos.

I previously read Salad Days and thought that was wonderful but his follow on book A Hell of a War is even better. He had quite an exciting naval career. It's all told with wit and a nice bonhomie. I would recommend this book without reservation.
