It is found in the hill-tracts of Eastern Bengal, Tipperah and Chittagong and along the whole range of the Himalayas as far as the Sutlej river, migrating from a higher to a lower elevation in winter. In summer it has been found at an elevation of as much as 10,000 feet near Chini. In habits this species does not appear to differ in any important respect from the next.
